ELSO would like to recognize Cook Children's Medical Center for
receiving the Award for Excellence in Life Support!
One of the reasons Cook Children's Medical Center was found
noteworthy as specified by the ELSO Award Committee is:
You are awarded this continuing honor based on many aspects of your
excellent program. You have amazing rehabilitation services available for your
ECMO patients. Bedside nurses must complete a 4 hour didactic course to provide
care to an ECMO pe. One physician to cover the ecmo patient during cannulation
We budget for every specialist to attend an outside meeting (ELSO, Keystone, or
SEECMO every other year. Our team has team meetings every other month and
newsletters in the odd months, covering any new information from literature,
conferences and other learning opportunities. Recent cases are discussed and if
available, ELSO statistics are reviewed. In March of every year, we have a full
day, full team meeting/training session. The March meeting is mandatory, as well
as attendance/ participation in of 10 of the 12 meeting/newsletter
opportunities. Water labs are scheduled and available every 3 months. We have
mandatory water labs any time a new piece of equipment or new procedure is
introduced and a major troubleshooting waterlab in the yearly meeting, usually
including timed events. Water labs are mandatory for specialists with less than
24 hours pump time in the previous quarter.
