ELSO would like to recognize Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital for receiving the Award for Excellence in Life Support!

One of the reasons Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital was found noteworthy as specified by the ELSO Award Committee is:

You are awarded this honor based in part on your excellent recertification program. Annual re-certification is mandatory, with 1-3 specialists at a time given a 4 hours to complete ECMO competencies and demonstrate their knowledge of pump assessment, emergencies, circuit procedures, alarm reviews, tubing rupture, membrane failure, ACT management, and patient complications. Included in this training, are the Joint Commission’s safety goals as related to ECMO and the incorporation of a "hand-off at cannulation" check list. All this is in addition to madatory monthly team meetings and mandatory physician attendance at the specialist training class.
